  • A long time ago, I used to make life-changing decisions on a regular basis with about as much forethought as ordering a diet soda. Move out of town? Okay, sounds good. Get married in a month? Sure, that’s a great idea. Have a baby? Why the hell not! It’s rather pathetic when you realize, too late, that ‘why the hell not’ has changed the entire trajectory of your existence. What’s even more pathetic is when you find yourself, years later, trying to impart this hard-won wisdom onto someone else, who, like you before, is just as content to go along with the flow of life despite its dangerous undercurrent.
