  • So I work in an office full of fashionable folk. And although everyone is a little bit to cool for school, traditions must still be observed. Such as cake on birthdays.

It was the birthday of our intern (they get paid BTW) and so the cake came out. However being a office full of fashionable folk it was decided that be were to cool to sing Happy Birthday to her. As no one likes to sing it; and no one likes it sung to them.

This caused a problem in the birthday ritual, as everyone stands around awkwardly, given there is no natural prompt for a person to blow the candles out.

After a about a minute of social tension the candles were blown out much to everyone collective relief, however some one had decided to to buy joke candles that would reignited themselves for comic effect.

The effect that resulted was a group trying to do things differently, but been reminded several times that the world has social procedure for a reason.

    Then we had some cake.
