  • This picture was taken on a walking trail near Wanoij in Southern Netherlands, not far from the German border.

This track was used by the German army as a supply line in World War Two.

This was my favourite picture from our trip to the Netherlands to visit my wife Maria's family in October of 2014.

Maria's grandfather Wilhelmus Veldpaus was a railway employee. Wilhelmus also worked for the Dutch Resistance, which routinely destroyed sections of rail lines.

While he never talked about what he did for the Dutch Resistance, Wilhelmus may have played a role in disrupting the line.

He may have stood at this very site in the 1940's.
