  • When I first met Marqease his case worker told me that he only wanted "brown parents". Marqease has been in foster care for most of his life - moved from home to home and now residing at a residential facility for young people with development delays. He is 15 years old but in talking to him, you realize he has the innocence and understanding of a child much, much younger. We met for pizza when I delivered his wish - A NY Giants comforter set for his room. He introduced himself to every single person in the restaurant. He hugged my two daughters the minute he met them. He showed them a photo album of his baby pictures. All he did was smile. After spending just a few hours with me and my children (one white, one black) he proudly proclaimed to his caseworker "I think that any color parents would be ok."
