  • Waking to the smells of freshly brewed coffee.
    Stirring spoons, stirring feet.
Sunshine peeking through the blinds, grandpa peeking over his paper.
Giving his attention to the backyard.
The doves, the blue jays, and the cardinals feasting on seeds and grains
While we feast on French toast and fresh eggs.
Soaring high and diving low, my eyes followed every move.
I didn’t want to miss anything
    Swooping with effortless grace
Every movement filling me with jealousy.
    I envied their freedom.
They could go to the ends of the Earth
The Grand Canyon, the Andes Mountains
    Endless skies for the exploring
Though when imagining growing wings and joining them
I realize I would stay and play my part in the morning show
