  • A couple of weekends ago, just after I'd got back from England, I went for a long walk through my neighborhood.

University City, a suburb of St. Louis, adjacent to the city itself. One of those border suburbs that embraces both the wealthier and poorer parts of St. Louis county. To the north, Wellston and Ferguson. To the south Clayton and Ladue. And right through the middle, Delmar Avenue, the clear marker of the racial divide between black (north) and south (white).

I'd spent much of my vacation taking picture postcard type photographs. Pleasing digital images of many-times-before photographed scenes.

This time I took an old film camera and a roll of black and film.

Looking for a very different feel.
