  • I saw this in the hotel shower on leap year day while on a business trip to Seattle - a heart trapped in the cold marble wall tile. I can’t have been the first to have seen it - or could I? I called out to my colleague/friend/hotel roomie to come take a look.

“Huh. I didn’t even notice that” she said intrigued, cocking her head sideways to get a better view.

“It tells a story” I said. “See, if you read it left to right, the line was smooth, life was just flowing along…”

“Then BOOM!” she said “something happened. Something big. Maybe she met someone?”

Excellent. She was picking up the game quickly. She doesn’t consider herself at all creative, so it was particularly fun to have her playing along.

“Yeah, boom” I said. “Some kind of big, fantastic, unexpected heart explosion that changed the pattern, rocked her world…”

“Those jaggedy lines, like a river. There’s a lot going on there ever since… Uncertainty maybe, but boldness too. What happens next you think?”

I paused and looked harder. I really couldn’t say.

“I dunno. Maybe someone else needs to see it to help figure it out, to determine where it’s leading…”

“Someone who can see things like you do probably…whoever that is!” she laughed, turning away.

    “Probably yes. Whoever that is.”
