  • I was made to believe that I have enough money on my pocket to pay for my taxi fare from the hotel to the airport, only to realize I am $8 short.

I tried to tell the Chinese driver (in English) if he accepts credit card or if there's a way for me to withdraw funds so I can pay the exact amount --- to which the driver turned off the meter.

I said I only have this much money -- to which the driver looked confused inside his protective plastic driver seat barrier.

I said do you speak English -- to which he ignored me.

I realized it was pointless considering the second barrier (language), so I repeated what I said and ended my phrases with 'OK',

He said OK, I said OK, then we parted ways, only after I gave him all my remaining coins to mean 'that's all I have, I'm very sorry'.

Lesson learned: Consider hailing a cab instead and assume less.

    OK.
