  • He started to trace her steps. She was staying with friends on Steiner street and working in a bookstore on Market. At night she frequented a nightclub in Chinatown called The Forbidden City. She often wore a red satin dress with a mandarin collar which he found strange for a broad from the midwest. The bartender said she was fond of Gin Rickeys and a guy with blond hair with a scar under his left eye. Her alibi was quickly starting to fall apart and he wasn't so ready to buy her small town girl act. Or was he just jealous? No, this was strictly a gig for pay. He got careless though and she saw him one night as she came out of the Dragon's Den. She brushed by him and then stopped to adjust the seam on her silk stocking, slightly bent over and stealing a glance behind slyly to make sure he noticed her. But by the time he lit his cigarette she was gone.
