  • "At times I feel enmeshed in the loneliness and longing of all things..." - from 'Sofas & #2 Pencils' by Chris Chandler...
Sprouted from a piece by Susan Perly.

Does a humble straw hat ever fantasize about being a tall, regal 10x beaver fur top hat?

Does the laid back panama ever wonder what it would be like to be a blocked and pressed, pencil rolled Stetson?

Does the proletarian baseball cap ever wish it could be an elite Homburg, part of some Saturday night dandy's tailored suit?”

Do you think a fez would ever pretend it's a yarmulke?

Would a gem encrusted tiara ever go slumming as a sweat stained woolen watch cap?

Do you think a soldier's helmet ever wished it was a young girl's Easter Bonnet?

Perhaps the Pope's Precious Mitre indulges in the forbidden fantasy of being a beer hat jammed on the head of a drunken, atheist frat boy.

Many magicians produce rabbits from hats. Not so many produce hats from rabbits.

After proofing this I am once again reminded of the wisdom of my decision to eschew the typewriter for the paintbrush.

My hat's off to you, Susan! Keep playin' the hits...
