  • "Eli's Coming"- Three Dog Night

    Eli's comin'
    Eli's comin' (Eli's a-comin')
Well, you better hide your heart
    Your loving heart
Eli's a-comin', and the cards say
    A broken heart
  • Well, I guess I knew it would happen at some point.....

    "You're not my mom!"

    "Yes I am."

"You're my adoptive mom, you didn't birth me."

"It doesn't matter Eli. I'm your mom. I was there when you were born. I fed you, changed your diapers, sat at the hospital when you were sick, sang songs to you."

    "You're not my mom."

"Do you want to talk about your adoption?"

    "No.""
    ****************************
So this started because I took his I-pad away for a week because he's failing two classes. He has ADHD and gets hyperfocused on gaming. He isn't allowed to game on his computer weekdays. So last night I catch him gaming and told him to get off. He refused. Then he decided to go for the heart - of a mother. Hence the above conversation.

I told him it was hurtful.

So I go interrupt my husband's wrestling program and ask him to back me. He didn't and wouldn't. After a brief yelling match and a few choice words, I leave.

I grab my son's I-pad and throw it on his bed.

"Ok, fail school, give up! If you don't care and don't want to succeed you won't!"

I go back to my room and research "divorce" on the internet and think I won't wait til Eli graduates high school.

In the morning I drive Eli to school but don't speak to him.

Today is my dad's birthday and I remember the time I yelled at dad, "I wish I was never born!"

My dad was furious and said,
"I don't ever want to hear you say that again!" I had obviously hurt him deeply. I was a teen then.
    So I think about Eli.
    He is a teen.
He is learning how to push buttons.

So, tonight I come home from work and Eli greets me and asks for help connecting on the school website where his grades and assignments are. He talks about college and asks me if he can have a tutor. He puts his hand on my shoulder.

    He's back!
Eli's coming, hold your heart girls! Girls! Eli's a comin hide your heart!
  • So...tonight ... I ask him -

"Do you want to talk about your adoption?"

    "No."

"You know I have your memory box...with your ultrasound pictures, and ink footprints, and tiny stethoscope, and airplane wings from the flight home."

    "I know mom. That's ok."
