  • Today is Leap Day 2012 and it is a reminder that today is the first day of the rest of your life. Take the leap!

Leap Year is the year to make a change in your life for the better. I have joined the Leap Year Project (leapyearproject.org), which is a community initiative. It is a group of people taking action to change their lives, their communities, or their world for the better in 2012. In other words, it is asking the question, “How can I make a difference?” then going out and making that happen with a passion.

My first goal for leap year is to post a new story every day of 2012 on Cowbird. It is a personal goal centered on improving my photography and storytelling skills.

I also built a goal of improving my physical fitness in 2012. When I began running at the first of the year I could not run for three minutes at a time without collapsing in wheezes. In a little over eight weeks I have trained three days a week and can now run for twenty-eight minutes at a time. My goal is to try and run a 5K run or a short marathon sometime this year.

There are other goals I have which include helping my community, getting to know my family better, expanding my career reach, and building lasting friendships. All these things are important to me, but are also important to others in my life. In the end it is about making a difference.

How are you making a difference? How are you going to make your leap in 2012?
