  • The continual seeking that is art. The flux, the change, the uncertainty, the soaring of it!

It is so full of wondering and wonder. Would I have everything known, spelled out, decided? Sometimes this is what I yearn for, and yet I know that this is not what art is all about. The creative process is the process of life itself – to bring one's own order and glory out of the mystery and majesty of everyday existence.

So much depends on instinct and intuition, because there are no rules, there is no guide to doing what has never been done before, and that is what art at its best is all about. To find the channels and materials through which one can express his fullest sense of universal life, and of his own unique individuality.

I often think of something Vincent van Gogh wrote in a letter to his brother, Theo: "Yet I am good for something, yet I am aware of some reason for existing! I know that I might be a totally different man! How then can I be useful, how can I be of service? Something is alive in me: what can it be?"
