  • While we continue the analogy of a painting as a math problem, consider this.

In a quadratic equation the highest exponent of the variable is squared - that is one or more terms are raised to the power of two, but no higher.

To visually transpose this mathematical construct into an absurd expression of surreal and symbolic imagery functioning as narrative kitsch - the elements of the equation- including all variables - must be first worked out on paper, the problem solved and the solution obtained with pens and pencils before recording with paint and brushes on canvas the arc of the progression.

The problem is solved when the answer is obtained.

Asymmetrical balance is achieved in a non-linear, visual narrative grounded in the concept of orchestrating chaos and comic punch to deliver maximum viewing effect.

The painter of absurdly expressed surreal, symbolic narrative kitsch must master a wide variety of techniques while adhering to none in particular. This allows convention to be abandoned in favor of the most effective telling of the tale.

Form is defined by deceiving function. Definition is suggested while detail is suppressed. Linear resolve is simultaneously discarded and enhanced. The middle of the story becomes the end. The beginning, vague and variable, is squared then reduced to the lowest common denominator. The protagonist becomes the narrator. Plenty of room remains in the image for the viewer to assume any of the roles while engaging in narrative speculation.
