    Notes from Jay Allison

Sydney Lewis works here at Transom/Atlantic Public Media, and she finds irrepressible characters. I don't know if they're drawn to her or her to them. Both, I suspect. Syd says, "Whether flat out prosaic or hurricane intense, the sharing of the details is the joy for me. And you learn stuff about where you live. Like about gourds. Who knew? Not this city-raised girl. Not until that moment in Nancy's yard."

The remarkable thing about recorded voices is that big personalities like Nancy's have equal footing with the quiet ones. The microphone is an equalizer--it honors both the wild and the intimate.
