  • My mother sang nursery rhymes to me when I was a little girl. One of them was The Three Little Kittens.

    What I remember of it is as follows:

    The three little kittens they lost their mittens,
    And they began to cry,
    Oh, mother dear, see here, see here,
    Our mittens we have lost.
    You lost your mittens, you naughty kittens!
    Then you shall have no pie.
    Mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow, my!

    My mom told me that once, when I was little, there was a meal where I was told I couldn't have any pie unless I finished my supper and, to her amusement, I sang in reply, "Mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow, my!"
