  • I know: pretty much everything we read about the world is terrible: from ISIS to especially a thousand unjust and oppressive and violent things that happen every single day here in Mexico.

Last Saturday I invited whoever wanted and works with children, young people or any group in our little town. My best talent is knowing a lot of different people and liking to bring many of them together and that was the sole reason for this event. And many came. Many who work in formal organizations or others who work informally with whoever wants it or needs it and many involving the visual arts, sports and music.

What amazed me is that through the Internet we seem to be connected with the last corner of the planet, but inside our little town many of us did not know what others do!

There was a woman, who out of her own inspiration coordinates promotors of alternative medicine in 50 of the poorest Mayan communities here in the Highlands. There were two organizations that work with and for the thousands of street - kids and - youngsters. A group of very energetic young indigenous men came, who started collecting and repairing musical instruments and teaching music to young people lost sniffing glue in the streets and they are being successful in bringing many of these individuals back to a life in society. My friend Aco talked about her work organizing ecological classes in a natural reserve in town, a woman I had never known before, announced that she and a nother teacher have a school for children and young people with a handicap. Officially schools have to integrate these individuals, but in practice they do not do, because a school does not accept a child without a birth certificate and an official diagnose. Many people here do not have a birth certificate. So, these two wonderful ladies take anyone in and teach them whatever skill is possible to learn. There were interested people, newcomers to town, who offered themselves as volunteers. One man had connected me on FaceBook: he is a psychologist in Puebla and spends all his free time being Dr. Burbujas, a kind of Patch Adams, in hospitals and Old Peoples┬┤Homes in Puebla, he even aprroaches the dying as a clown and with great success. He and his wife came all the way from Puebla, 600 km from here, just to connect.

Angeles talked about her center for Equinotherapy, she herself works with volunteers 40 therapy hours a week for 8 Dollars the hour - with often severely handicapped children of extremely poor parents. She is giving her life!

There was a teenage girl, who announced: my friends and I noticed that we have a lot of free time, we want to do something good. There are 15 of us and in our free time we go around and offer hugs and smiles to anyone in the streets. We are ready to be volunteers with any of your projects here!

We sat for 5 hours without a break and at the end each one of us felt HOPE FOR THE WORLD, we had experienced again that besides all the terrible official news, the world, even here in troubled Mexico, is filled with wonderful people and loving hearts.

I am still flying on CLOUD 7!!!
