  • It is approaching the shortest day of the year and the sun sets over Mont Blanc. The snow capped peaks glow almost from within. It's strange to say in the midst of winter but I feel the December sun pour warm golden light all over my face. I recall the words of Hafiz, a joyful, mischievous 14th century poet:

    " O Wondrous Creatures
    By What Strange Miracle
    Do You So Often
    Not Smile"

    There may be chaos all around but for this moment --I smile.
