  • I've heard of
    'prisoner of war', the POW
    'political prisoner'
    'prisoner of my own mind'
    'prisoner of the poverty trap'
    and
    'take no prisoners'.

    Today I learned another
    'prisoner of conscience', the POC;
    thanks, Amnesty International
    for expanding my vocabulary.

    This special phrase is reserved
    for those who use non-violence
    to express their conscious beliefs;
    Unfortunately, the rules of order
    required their complete silence.

    For every eye, the POC does not blind;
    Rest assured, they are paid in kind.
    The PIC, the people in charge
    promise to take at least two eyes,
    and to throw in some floggings free of charge.

    Fair is fair, these are the rules;
    perfect, divine, tit for tat;
    Our society has no room for fools.
    Your order's up: Declining health, goodbye free speech,
    Maybe you'd like some PTSD with that?
