  • The key kept turning. When I tried the third time, I realized I was locked out -- in the middle of the mountains, on this island, thousands of miles away from home and the warm sanctuary of loved ones.

I went to the deserted driveway and kicked stones. I thought that maybe time would solve the problem. The world has a way of washing solutions on your shore when all else fails. A band of teenagers were playing music from the radio in a soccer pitch nearby. Maybe they could help me. Bottles clinked as they shouted at each other and laughed.

I sat on the ground and looked up at the sky. A void of black lit by a beacon of a moon. It made me feel like a stranded driver by the highway of the universe. I don't know why but I pointed my camera and snapped. Maybe to dispel the loneliness. When I looked back at the screen it radiated back a galaxy of stars which were impossible to see with the naked eye.

All those stars looking down on me. Maybe we are always surrounded by things we can't see but are always there.
