  • Claire stood on the rise between two rivers, where she had been countless times before. She watched the water appear at the top of the valley and disappear around the bend. The sun was ¾’s through the sky and began to lend a golden hue to the landscape.

    She was contemplating nothing at all, lost in the sparkle of sun on water. A bird’s song began and Claire turned to see him singing.

    She closed her eyes to the low sun. Breathed in the dry dirt beneath her feet and listened to the river’s passing.

    As she breathed out she rose up and slowly lifted herself off the earth circling the valley until she could see the ocean.
