  • I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and thank you for a very good time here on the Cowbird. Soon another year will be over and a new one in front of us, with new opportunities and new tasks. In January I will become sixty, an age which felt very frightening thirty years ago, but now I am almost there. Fortunately in a good health and enjoying life as much as I ever did, with my head full of ideas about things I want to do in 2015. But the sun is not always shining, over the last fourteen months two of my sisters passed away, so even though I tend to look at the brighter sides of life here on the Cowbird, of course I have to face the darker moments, like we all have to do.

My favourite quote this year is Bob Dylan’s definition of success, which I read in Navigating Stuckness by Jonathan Harris in January: “A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.”

The photo of my wonderful grandson, Björn Helgi, who will be four years old in March, was taken by the talented young photographer Auðunn Níelsson.
