  • As the 5th grade crossing guards left class Ms Hartford said, “It’s raining, so use the rain gear.”

    Jackie grinned as she realized what the rain meant. She had dreamed of exploring the swamps of far away Florida in those tall yellow boots.

    It only took them a few minutes to find their bright yellow gear. Jackie took half as long and led the charge to the giant puddle next to the flagpole. Inching into the water she imagined alligators and manatees swimming under the murky brown water.

    The bell rang and she ran splashing the water everywhere as she took her position on the street corner, certain now that she was going to be the next great explorer.
