  • I get the call...
    Get your butt over here
    .....In so many words.

    Driving in pouring rain
    I think
    I dred
I know what I'm driving to.

    Professionals, no more.
    Doctor, nurse.
    Minds gone.

    Medications like a jumble.
    Childs play.
    Even, I am shocked.
    I look at our nurse
    Young and of sound mind.
What to do? What to do?

The elderly gentleman pleads with me, not to call.
    I tell him...I have to.
    I'm sorry, its my job.
He shows me his graduation picture, of many years ago.
Inwardly, I sympathize, and think, the mind is such an awful thing to waste. But its not his fault, or her fault, this thing called dementia.

So I call...and they come. They go, and I go, behind the caravan that leaves silently, not with glaring lights. And the rain beats down on the windshield.
