  • She was 7 when it started
her mother decided to sell her
when the first man lay down on top of her she cried out
screamed in terror for her mommy
mommy came and hit her hard about the head
mommy told her to do what the man said
and if she cried she would get the devil kicked out of her
Annie cried out and mommy came and kicked her
and she still had to do what the man who smelled of sweat and whiskey wanted her to do

The next time a man lay down on top of her she was quiet as the man pushed his way in to her childs body
but the time after that she cried out in pain...''mommy, please! please! it hurts! oh please!
    and mommy came
and the man wanted his money back
    he was mad
    mommy was mad
mommy dragged her into the kitchen and told her to put her hands on the counter and make her arms stiff...
Annie's heart was beating outside her body but she did as she was told
and mommy picked up the broom and slammed the handle down hard on Annie's small arms
Annie felt a crack of black agony
    and her arms
after that they simply sort of dangled there

Annie never cried for mommy again

One day mommy disappeared and Annie was rescued by the state
    foster care proved dangerous too
Annie's sweet beauty was a blessing and a curse
they could see her light and wanted to eat it

Annie took up drugs and drink to hide from it all

Then one day Annie had a little luck
she met a man who didn't want to hurt her
he only wanted to love her
    he held her close
    and kissed her soft
and polished her to a glow
but when he lay down on top of her she didn't see his face
    it was them she saw

She longed to see his face
she longed for so long to fly away from memories and other things
but her arms bent out from her sides like broken wings
    Annie never healed...
and she never learned to fly
