  • My high school teacher awarded me poet laureate
and I looked up the meaning in the dictionary
and assumed that she must have felt bad for me
because I was who I was, and had turned in my poems and writings into class -
AP English - extra credit - please teacher give me an A

I called the book "GREATEST HITS"
and wrote about what might have been a rape if I wasn't more careful

I documented this experience and turned it into her
In some ways, I realize that I was just experiencing what she experienced with him.
    for how long?

the good and the bad, the torture and the drama. But it never goes dark, I say.

I woke up with him on top of me I called it "hands unauthorized" because I had been listening to too much Ani Difranco
    Fiona Apple.
I wrote so many sad songs and then went out to find true love and did and meant it.

I had to prove to myself that love wasn't just A Clockwork Orange

I had to feel true love with everything in my body and say at sixteen 'til death do we part.

We parted early, and we knew it.
We lived in the same city and I became bashful around you like the 16 year old girl. We reminisced, and I, like an old lady, told your girlfriend that "he was a nice boy who took me to prom." that he was "the best boyfriend in the entire world."

and my heart thanks him over and over for that.
