  • Sometimes, when the world is too much with me, I go to stories and images that have the power to transport one - me, you, him, her - to another time or place. Enter Cowbird - the quintessential setting (I will reserve the 2012 lingo of "site" and "platform" for now). This photo holds one such place - Ireland - but a time that makes me really stretch to remind myself of the breadth and depth and importance of time - in the grand scheme. I am merely a spec in the universe, but thinking, breathing, walking, talking, interacting, working, partnering, dreaming, teaching, and creating, so a vital spec, at least. Still, I am minute and humbled when studying this image. Pictured is a Neolithic stone circle dating back to 5,000 B.C. While no one can know for sure their purpose, I would like to think that these circles brought men, women, and children together for community, worship, conversation, story-telling, song, meals, warmth, celebration, safety - massive rocks that lose some of their "rockhardness" as they repose in the eternal nature and intimacy of a circle.
