  • The future is right around the corner. Yet it has always felt so far away.

When I was little, I’d always saw it as something in the distance and slightly unreal.

Now it is in my face and it is frighteningly real. I always thought the future was a

destination. Now I realize it is a never-ending journey. I will always be working

towards my future. My understanding of this makes me have a fuller appreciation of

the present. It makes me realize how important it is to live in the moment.

I know this year I am and will be preparing for college. Homework has been

and will be taking up my afternoons throughout the year. Tests will have to be

studied for and essays will be written. I’ll work hard to keep my grades up. I’ll apply

for scholarships. I’ll get ready for the ACT and hope to improve my score. My

decisions pertaining to college and what I desire to study will hopefully be made. I

will work hard to establish a solid foundation for my future.

But, This year I will also go to the movies. I will spend time with my niece,

Emily. I will make time to read new books and will become emotionally attached to

the characters. As soon as the final book of the Heroes of Olympus series is out, I’ll

rush to the store to buy it. Lots of my time will be spent deciding on what I want to

dress up as for Halloween. I’ll get excited when my family buys pumpkin pie and I’ll

hurry to eat a slice before it disappears. As winter nears my brother and I will go to

bed hoping it’ll snow a lot so that school will be canceled. When it snows during

school I will gaze out the windows and become distracted like everyone else. I’ll

have snow fights with my siblings and make deformed snowmen. I will become 18.

I’ll get nervous over obtaining a driver’s license. I will become filled with excitement

as graduation approaches. I will walk across the stage to receive my diploma.

This is my last year of high school. I truly hope to make this year a great one.

I hope all I desire will come to be.
