  • Even as I'm writing this, I find myself in some other unidentified room. This time somewhere in Missouri. And I'm sitting on a chair occupied by countless faceless travelers. Writing on a generic desk that's identical to ones I've worked on before.

But there was one trip when the room was certainly different. It wasn't just because it was swankier than the others. Being in the middle of midtown certainly made that trip energizing than the rest. But that wasn't it.

This time it was different. This time, this window that looked out into the world was a window into a new opportunity. I was staring at an offer to start a new chapter in my life.

I recall the relative calm of the room as it served as an anchor against the turmoil both happening externally out the window as well as the turmoil inside of me. Obviously, the decision was an exciting one to make. But it wasn't without conflict.

I haven't discovered meditation yet in my life. So I didn't have the tools at that time. But by sitting on that very chair, I was able to give myself some time, some peace.

Decisions weren't certainly made at that very moment. Doubt it was made that day. Friends and family can help shape life altering choices. But I knew this time, I had to make this one on my own.

So I found myself sitting there. Sitting there longer than most.
