  • I love this photo. Dad and I are at our stubborn best, refusing to smile, despite my mom's pleas. Dad looks like he would rather be holding a bottle of beer than a fussy baby, and I look like I could use a bottle of something to wipe that look of haughty disdain off my face.

    Most people would consider this a throwaway photo. "It would be a great picture if you two were smiling!" But it is the defiance of the photo's subjects that make it a personal treasure.
