  • "It is just an illusion we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone it is gone forever." - Billy Pilgrim in Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five

We were just two grains of sand on the beach. Speaking of grandiose ideas of changing the world and laughing uncontrollably foaming at the mouth at listening to what we were saying and actually believing it, taking the realization of such dreams and whims and idealisms as certain as the ocean still being blue tomorrow. But tomorrow wasn't something we were thinking about, unimaginable really, irrelevant to the rhythm of the waves climaxing on the shore and leaving an outline in the sand before receding back into the ocean to ricochet to some distant beach somewhere else in the world to cool the ankles of someone else, pacing back and forth, back and forth, never ending. The sun still golden, slowly laying down over the Mediterranean and glittering fireflies on the vibrating pane, I would have married her in that moment and never looked back. Maybe I did marry her in that moment, and we are young and free and careless somersaulting across beaches naked and smiling in perpetual light, embracing and biting in a ball of flesh in some parallel universe.

I close my eyes and I’m there.
