  • I bound this blank book 5 years ago. It was the first time I had tried to make a double book—two books that share the same back cover. At the time I made it, I was in a Craigslist apartment on Brackett Street in the West End of Portland, Maine. My bookmaking table took up a third of my room.

This book was intended to be a journal, but after I finished it I decided my life didn't live up to this book. This book was for a more epic life than mine.

Since then, I've traded Brackett Street for Sackett Street, and Portland for Brooklyn, although I'm typing this on the same table that I had 5 years ago. But it's finally time for me to use this book.

I wrote my first entry two days ago. I don't know what will happen. A book can be a powerful thing, especially one you make yourself.
