  • Cockroach

It was around 10:00 at my house. The stars twinkled softly, and the wolves howled for their dead. I was inside my house chatting with my dad.

I looked over at my almost asleep dad and asked, “ Dad, can me and Brie stay up a bit to watch T.V?” He looked up groggily and answered, “Sure, just go to bed after a few shows.” I smiled and padded upstairs.

“Hi Brie!” I murmured over to my sister to my sister who was playing a game on the red couch. “ Oh, hi.” She answered boringly. I ignored the boring excuse of a gesture and sat down. I grabbed the T.V remote and turned on the T.V, turning it to Spongebob, Brie’s favorite T.V show.

Me and Brianna watched the show for a while, until I decided that I should go to bed. “I’m going to bed. Goodnight.” I stood up, and looked over at Brianna, and her eyes were as wide as saucers. “What’s wrong?” I asked her. She shakily lifted her hand, and pointed behind me.

“There is a cockroach behind you!” She stuttered, and I turned behind me quickly. She was right, there was a huge cockroach behind me. I covered my mouth and tried not to squeal. “ Yeah, um, one is here alright.” nervously stated. “ Get dad! “ Brie squealed.

I quickly ran down stairs to get my dad. “ Dad!” I exclaimed. He snapped his eyes open and asked, “What? What do you want?” I told him, “ There is a cockroach upstairs, can you kill it?” He nodded and got up, stalking into the kitchen to get a newspaper role.

We both jogged upstairs, and saw Brianna crouching in the corner of the room, my dad tip-toed slowly over to the cockroach, and swiped at it. The cockroach dropped off of the couch and scurried away. My dad threw the newspaper role at the floor, because of his defective aiming.

“Tell me if you see it again. “ He said, then ran downstairs. My sister nodded and then staggered sleepily into our room. I got up, then strolled into my room. Before I could fall asleep, I felt something tickling my arm. I looked over my shoulder, to find a cockroach resting there.

I screamed, waking up my sister. I hastily got up and ran into my parents room. I slept in there for the rest of the night. I pray we don’t ever see that again.
