  • Ab Day and plenty of it.

The weather is on the roller coaster again, cool in the mornings and warm in the afternoon. So I put on sweats over my compression gear this morning to take Olivia out for our morning walk. Most of it was brisk, but at the end we did take a few moments to talk with Flo, a neighbor and fellow dog owner who is also a Christian. That is a very pleasant way to start the day.

Back to the house and down to the basement for our daily run on the Gazelle and workout in the bicycle. Olivia comes with me and lies down to watch as I complete my morning cardio. I'm not sure if she thinks I am insane or just likes my company. Probably the first.

Up from the basement after the 20 minutes of daily cardio to begin the morning exercises and my ab work. On ab days, I mix up the order. I start with my squats, then do the bend overs, but since I will be down on the floor for the pushups, I do my crunches, leg lifts and bicycles before getting the pushups. Since I am emphasizing my abs today, that seems to work out nicely. While I am completing the pushups, the abs feel the tension more intensely.

From there to the exercise ball for the final ab work, situps and oblique twists. When they are complete, I switch my music from the exercise (Zen) channel to Bluegrass, pick up my Martin and start to pick along. A great way to get the morning running.

The count? 10 minutes each on the Gazelle and the Stationary Bike, 50 squats, 50 bend overs, 50 crunches, 50 leg lifts, 50 bicycles, 50 pushups, 150 situps and 150 oblique twists. If you do it, trust me, you will understand why they call them sweats.

Leg day tomorrow, so I am eating a bit more today to get the protein into my system. This week, I've been having a PowerBar after each workout, and they seem to do the trick. Not only are they low in fat and filling, but they also taste pretty good. Since there is a wide selection of flavors, you might want to try them sometime. They are an excellent protein supplement.

Off to face the day, and no matter what comes along, I'll handle it. Being in shape has it's advantages, doesn't it?

I hope you are having a blessed and powerful day.
