My name is Séan Poole.

You can also find me here. I am a Cowbird citizen. I’ve told 182 stories. I joined Cowbird on February 23, 2012.

I am as far underground and outside the margins as a writer can be. I am the author and publisher of “Gattorno: A Cuban Painter For The World" which won the 2009 Eric Hoffer Award for Excellence in Independent Publishing as well as first place honors in the Fine Art Genre at the 2009 New England Book Fair and at the 2008 London Book Fair.

I published “Words Are My Paint” in 2012. A book of hymns from the First Church of The Last Resort, this collection of poems and drawings was culled from a series of notebooks, journals and clipboards, collected and obsessively filled for 4 decades. One of the featured poems, ‘The Ice Cream Mantra’ is in a recentt edition of “Who’s Who In American Poetry”.

I have no agent, no publisher and no distribution company. I do have a garage full of books for sale! I am happy to trade book for book with other published writers.

I wrote about art and artists for decades. I began painting in 2014. I describe my style as Surreal and Symbolic Absurd Expression of Narrative Kitsch. My influences range from Gattorno and the Cuban Vanguardia painters to R. Crumb, Chuck Jones, Paul Klee, Joan Miro & Wassily Kandinsky.

I was born in New York City and raised in Southern California. I have traveled from border to border and coast-to-coast most of my adult life. For many years I wrote and performed Flipped Out Fables, working the Dirt Circuit, in a wacky comedy duo The Just Desserts Fairy Tale Players.

I write poetry, plays, scripts, short stories, magazine articles, advertising copy, press releases and artists’ monographs.

I play percussion, drums and vibes, and the accordion. I have worked in a wide variety of esoteric jobs and had several careers in my wild, well spent life. I've been a voice-over artist, a major market radio personality and an independent writer/director of short dramatic and educational videos. I produce, direct and perform in everything from classical commedia del arte to live action-adventure stunt shows.

I live in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I reckon I am living proof that some folks will do just about anything to avoid having a real job.

I studiously avoided writers groups and workshops for years before the internet came along. I still tend to avoid the proliferation of online writers blogs, rooms and groups that inhabit the internet. I've read some things on Cowbird that resonate strongly with me. I've discovered a few fine writers. I have fun here. I dig real stories about real life by real people. There are many of those in this joint. Come checkout my website. You won't be disappointed. Drop me a line. Tell me you're a writer at Cowbird. Lets trade books!

Peace... Out...
