  • This was my 6th tattoo (of 9, so far). As with all of my body art, it has layers of meaning:

    It comes from Elton John's song, "The Captain and the Kid", which will forever represent me and one of my dearest friends.

    I am fascinated by tumbleweeds. Whenever a herd of them would blow past my car on the hour-long commute to work in middle-of-nowhere, Colorado, I would collapse into a fit of laughter and half-expect a scene from the O.K. Corral to unfold.

    I have never sat still well, when it comes to meeting the world. From the day I left for a summer in Spain (at 16), my life has been a series of moments between my next chance to travel.

    A majority of my tales here will relate to travel and how my life has bounced me around, like a tumbleweed in the wind.

    My life has always been narrated by a talking tumbleweed named Ted. If I ever write a memoir, he will be the teller of tales. So, as you (if you) choose to learn more of my story, imagine Ted as your spiny, wooden, Morgan-Freeman-esque narrator...
