  • In 1973 when I was around five years old and living on Ivy St. in New Llano, Louisiana, my sisters convinced me that the howl of the train was the boogie man coming, and one day they told me the boogie man was coming down the street. It was the giant street sweeper with its circular brushes creating a cloud of dust and its front shaped like the nosecone of a plane but with flattened pieces that gave it an angular and ominous look. I still get an uneasy feeling from both.
