  • It's been a month since...

I never thought I'd become one of those people who measured the present by its relation to events of the past. I never payed much attention to names and dates beyond immediate necessity. Time was a self-indulgent creature; it moved when it wanted to move and was stubborn, standing still, otherwise.

But for the first time, I can tell you that is has been one month.

That day, one month ago, time tested my patience. Everything happened so fast, yet lingered so long. In an instant, he was gone.

But for the next eight hours, I sat waiting for someone to pronounce him...

"He went all through the war without a scratch," she said, motioning as to look at him now. "He'd kill us if he knew his hair looked like that."

That eight hours was time lost. It was time that I spent the next three weeks hoping for. The time when the world should have stood still long enough for me to grieve. I kept waiting, hoping that I would have time to sit still and process. But that time never came...

And it's been a month since.
