  • I have an unhealthy obsession with the act of surprise.

I love the look on a persons face when they recieve something they couldn't expect, and it overwhelms them, and pure emotion spills onto their face.

It cannot be faked, that is the beauty of surprise, and

when they called my name, that was exactly what happened.

'Tom Fox' he said, and the audience erupted, and I look round.

Best Newcomer at the Theatre Society. First ever acting gig and I'd made an impact, an actual impact.

I walked up onto the stage, a whiskey and coke in my hand, hugged him and found myself at the microphone.

Speechless. Rarely am I speechless. I usually have something stupid to say.

    Finally, I managed 'I'm...I'm...gobsmacked, really.'

I think back to it sometimes ,and secretly wish that I'd thought of something wittier, but the truth is:

I really was gobsmacked. Not ever comedy could have hidden that.

It was only something small, a glass cased certificate, but it meant a whole lot.

That also, is the beauty of surprises.
