One day a friend and I were driving through the countryside. It was mixed farmland and forest.
Now and then there would be a fallow farm field...overgrown with weeds.
As we passed one of these fields, my friend said, "How beautiful!"
"What? That field? It's just a field of weeds," I said.
"I know," she said. "Isn't it just wildly beautiful?"
Such fields were very familiar to me from as early as I can remember. So much so that I didn't really notice them any more.
Perhaps I never had noticed them. Until that moment with her.
