Today is my daughter’s 26th birthday, yes, I started young. Before she graduated from college last May, she was awarded a Fulbright grant to teach in Belgium. I just like to brag about that, only two were given for 2011-12, and she had to be approved by both Washington and Brussels. I visited her in Brussels over the winter holiday, when I bought this snow globe. She is now teaching graduate-level English at the Free University of Brussels. She’s doing a lot better than me, I didn’t get my Fulbright until I was a 39 year old graduate student. She is one of the most independent people I know, having been on her own since seventeen, working her way through community college and then university, spending a year abroad in France becoming fluent, and now knocking out German. You tell me, what more could make a pseudo-intellectual part-time professor dad more proud?
