  • Last weekend when I went walking in my neighbourhood, the warm weather had brought sidewalk-chalking children out from their winter's hibernation.

I admired each new creation, smiling at the colours and perennial themes: hopscotch, flowers, hearts, yellow suns, and love notes to Mommy, Daddy, siblings and best friends.

This flower made me laugh, because after I passed the blossom, I realized they'd drawn the stem all the way down the block. I followed its "growth" backwards to its leaves and roots, several hundred feet down the road.

No wonder the flower looks so happy - it has grown so much, in its short life!
