  • She’d been running up the Devil’s Slide for years inhaling the ocean’s exhale of sea salt, feeling the crushed gravel under her feet, watching the birds glide above her.

    Occasionally the wind would push her towards the hillside, momentarily knocking her off balance. Each time she wondered how it felt to be lifted up by the invisible current instead of knocked down.

    Today she ran off the cliff, first dipping below the edge of the trail then unfurling her wings to be lifted up by the same wind holding the Cormorants and Pelicans.
