  • I returned to the Chain of Rocks Low Water Dam this afternoon.

Last time I was there, the river was icy and extremely low.

    Not today.

The water was almost as high as the riverbank parking lot, was flowing rapidly and carrying a lot of debris.

The few determined anglers were not having that much luck, with the dense murky flow and branches frequently snagging their lines.

Only one fish was caught to my knowledge, and that was an Asian Carp that jumped right out of the water to land next to a fisherman.
  • I didn't witness that myself, but there were lots of very large fish jumping in and out of the water.

I'm sure that attracted the pelicans, massed in large numbers both on the river and on the banks.

They were much more successful with their hunting.
  • I spent a long time watching them.

Long enough for the sun to gift me with a beautiful setting.

A lovely end to a really pleasing afternoon and evening.
