My name is Diya.

This is my Cowbird character. It was created by Humna Mustafa on 27 April, 2012.

Diya, an indian word that means, 'to give'. Also referred to as the oldest form of light, a tiny oil lantern, still used by the Hindus for their religious activities.

She is a Pakistani girl, who grew up in Middle East, who was raped at the age of five, by her own cousin in her grandparents house, when visiting for holidays, till she was Eleven and could reached the door to unlock. Having lived through life in fear of being beaten up by her mother, bullied by many for her physical appearance...moulded her personality to survive, by learning to lie, laugh, pretend, dream, imagine a perfect family, over looking all negativity in life...leaving behind all memories, to live in this harsh opinionated world, and be a success.

Today, at the age of thirty five today, she remembers her childhood and feels lost, knowing all that she is, all that she did...all that she does even today, are just ways she knew best how to survive. She's never really known the power of loving self, the strength to have a choice, to not always need or want approval from others and decide.

Her life was all about others, and making them happy. She didnt want people to know what was deep under

They say in books, such people are survivors...but all she knows today is she's not all that she thought she was...and so her journey begins to become herself, live her childhood at thirty five, and feel blessed to have had the chance to be able to share her story.
